Castor oil packs come up in therapy sessions and conversations often when I am around. I find the traditional soaked flannel application to be very messy and not very user friendly. I originally learned this hacked version at a bodywork training with Claire Miller, and I know several other therapists who prefer this method as well.
Apply castor oil liberally all over your abdomen from ribs to pelvis and right to left. If we have worked together and you know the self care routine, this is the time where you would apply your Arvigo self care massage strokes.
Lay wool flannel over the abdominal area I started with just using a hand towel but have switched to wool flannel. It is really itchy but conducts the heat better. You don’t have to wash it between sessions if you are using it for single person use.
Apply heat until the oil is absorbed. Traditional recommendation is 20 minutes. I tend to have a heavy hand on my personal application and it takes me about an hour to absorb all of the castor oil. I apply my own at night, in bed, so I fall asleep with the timer turned on the heating pad and just fall asleep that way.
