After integrating the advanced pregnancy Arvigo Techniques of Maya Abdominal Therapy® into my professional tool box, I noticed that I was attracting more complex cases as my community began to discover that I was more than just a great massage. I attended my first Spinning Babies® training in Florida right after my first doula/massage client elected an external cephalic version (ECV) for a breech presentation. We were able to create the space in her body to release tight and restricted areas, but we were missing an additional piece. Spinning Babies® approach of “Physiology Before Force” created the perfect blend of Maya Abdominal Therapy on the table, followed by applying Spinning Babies® techniques at the end of the session, and routinely for homework.
This began my journey deep into Gail Tully’s work. This was another defining moment in how I chose who I wanted to be as a doula and as a bodyworker. How to respect mother and baby’s ability to know what is the best position for their birth journey. Another opportunity to explore that text books are a variation of common and not a bible, and there is no standard optimal position for mother or her baby. The Arvigo Institute taught me to explore where the uterus is, AND Spinning Babies® taught me to ask where the baby is. It takes both to see a complete picture of what is aligning and where there is restriction.
This got me a good 11 months of applying the Spinning Babies® techniques on a routine basis, until I was able to attend the Spinning Babies® Aware Practitioner training in St Paul, MN in May, 2018. Total transparency….. I was THAT person. You know, the one who signs up but doesn’t really think they are going to get a lot. I was thinking, well, I get on the website and maybe I will learn a thing or two. How much more can there be after learning the Maya Abdominal Therapy and applying Gail Tully’s one day training? Um, yeah, the first day before lunch is all it took. I was engaged, no I was hooked. This was not what I expected. The teaching team was mind blowing.
Although the techniques are 5 star tools that I have integrated into my sessions, the biggest piece for me what the consciousness that one must bring to the massage table and the birthing location. I remember looking at Marcello with this huge lightbulb moment and asking him, “Wait, are you telling me that you want me to use the same part of my brain that my client is laboring in? Meaning, I am not hanging out in my analytical brain either?” YES!
So this is what I have gained by this latest transformation into how I will serve you and our community. Prenatally, we can apply the Spinning Babies® Aware Practitioner principles as we prepare your body for the incredible journey through pregnancy and birth; as your birth doula we can apply this same wisdom throughout your birth as we allow you and your baby to navigate the physiological path of birth and use more gentle techniques as an option before trying medically forceful approaches when indicated; postpartum we will appreciate and honor the journey you have been through and continue to transition through with your new baby by respectfully using massage techniques while honoring the new mother role you are developing.
I am incredibly honored to be the first Spinning Babies® Aware Practitioner in the state of South Carolina, and humbled by the trust Gail Tully and the Touch of Integral Birth Team have bestowed to help carry the torch forward into my community.

Just had my first appointment with Danica, and it was wonderful. Her office was very comfortable and relaxing! She really took her time to explain everything to me so I would understand how my body is reacting to my pregnancy and to the massage she gave. She didn’t rush one bit – which I always feel like happens at regular massages (such as massage envy.) I will definitely be back!!! My only complaint is that I wish there were more wonderful people like her giving prenatal massages! Boy I really wish I had found her earlier in my pregnancy!
